Group Proposal Presentation Project Reflection
What did you take away from the project? I learned so much about the world and also a lot about myself while working on this project. The hardest part of the project was picking an issue involving the Millennium Development Goals that we, as a group, wanted to change. We came up with a lot of ideas, but after doing research we often found that our ideas were already being implemented. I learned a lot about how to work as a group and how to share my ideas with my group. I learned that I am more of a leader than I first thought. Even though I wasn’t the Editor in Chief, the group often turned to me to make the final decisions.
What were the strengths of the completed project? I think the biggest strength of the completed project is that it raises awareness and funds for the hungry children of Bangladesh. In doing research for this project I found so many organizations from all over the world that are focused on raising awareness and funds for their specific group or project. Awareness is powerful because it leads people to donate funds and raise their voices to make a difference.
What were the weaknesses of the completed project? One possible weakness of the project is our target audience, which is the SLCC Asian Student Association. The ASA is not necessarily a large group and might not have all of the resources or funding to meet our goals and carry out our plans of raising awareness and funds. Another weakness is that our final paper and visuals were not as good as I thought they could be. If we had more time I would have liked to review and make some final edits on everything to make it more effective and professional.
How might you have contributed to the strengths and weaknesses? I played a big role in choosing the topic and the specific targets for our project. Our group spent a lot of time off topic while researching and discussing ideas, so I tried my best to keep us focused on meeting the requirements. I worked hard to get everything turned in on time and did extra things that I wasn’t assigned, such as making a map of Bangladesh with my GIS program, to contribute to the project.
What did the project experiences teach you about proposing solutions for global issues and about yourself? I learned that in proposing solutions for global issues, you need to do a lot of research to see what is working and what is not. There are so many groups and organizations out there in the world working hard to make a difference. Global issues are, of course, big issues that need to have very specific solutions so that time and resources can be implemented most effectively. I learned that I have a great love for the world and that I want to do more to make a difference. I became very passionate about our project to feed the children of Bangladesh. In doing this group project and in watching the presentation for the other group’s projects I have become very concerned about the issues in the world. I believe that everyone in the world has the right to live the same life that I live.
